Our application process must be completed prior to any pet leaving our care. It may take us up to 7-10 days to process, so submit now if you are considering adopting from us in the future.

You do not have to name a specific animal at the time you apply and approved applications are good for 6 months

What to expect during the Application Process

We know how excited you are to find your new family member - we are too! All the questions we ask help us learn about you so we can better match you to the perfect dog or cat.

1.  References and Pet information

  • Two personal references (only one can be a family member that is not living in your home) and their phone numbers

  • List past and current pets and if they were/are up to date on vaccinations

2. Veterinarians contact information

  • Name, address and phone of past and current vets so we can call to verify the information you provided about current and past pets

3.  Do you Rent/Lease your home?

  • We require contact information for your landlord/leasing company/homeowner so we can get their approval for this adoption.

  • Many apartment/townhome communities have breed and size restrictions that we MUST verify to complete your application

4.  You will receive an email confirming you submitted your application

  • Check your email and SPAM folder for an email from Eleventh Hour Rescue (@ehrdogs.org)

  • This email contains how to reach us while your application is being reviewed

5.  References and Veterinarians

  • Let your references know a volunteer from EHR will be calling

  • Inform your Veterinarians we will be calling and they can release information to us

6.  If we have questions about your application we will contact you

7.  You will receive an email

  • Once your application has been processed, you will receive an email informing you if you are approved and how to proceed meeting one of our dogs or cats.

  • Receiving the approval email does not guarantee that you will meet the animal you listed on your application.

8.  We do not 'hold' or 'reserve' animals during the application process

  • The animal you are interested in at the time you apply may have been adopted by a previously approved adopter during the time your application was being processed
